Jan Berinstein, the principal of CompuSavvy, has a B.A. in political science from UCLA
and an M.A. and Ph.D. in government from Cornell University.
For many years, she worked as a legal word processor for law firms in Southern California. She also has extensive experience as a freelance writer and copy editor, and has a journalism certificate from UCLA Extension.
Ms. Berinstein developed and taught computer classes for UCLA Extension (UNEX),
The University of West Los Angeles, The Center for Professional Education (CPE), and Learning
Tree University. She taught for UNEX starting in 1994 (she developed the popular "Computers and the Legal Environment" class that ran for approximately 10 years, as well as a series of "Computers for Adult Learners" classes for UNEX through The Osher Lifelong
Learning Institute).
She wrote her own handouts and course manuals and, although she brought in guest lecturers from time to time, conducted most of the training and teaching herself.
A well-known figure in the legal community, Ms. Berinstein also gave many public talks and workshops over the years, including presentations for bar associations, legal secretaries' groups, and LegalTech Los Angeles.
Ms. Berinstein is the author of the popular books, Formatting Legal Documents With Microsoft Word 2016 and Formatting Legal Documents
With Microsoft Word 2010, both of which are available on Amazon.com. She has written articles about legal technology for TechnoLawyer, the Legal IT Professionals web site, and Legal Secretaries magazine, among others, and has co-authored and edited books about WordPerfect.

Although a less active participant than in the past, she remains the primary administrator on the WordPerfect Universe web site , a
